A cedar roof shingle is thinner than a shake. It is sawn smooth on both faces and has a very neat, uniform finish. Cedar roof shingles can be pressure treated or fire treated if necessary. Cedar shingles are available in 2 grades: #1 grade, which is 100% edge grain, 100% clear cedar; #2 grade, which is 80% edge grain, 20% flat grain and can have knots in the top 5 inches of the shingle. They are available in 3 different types.
